Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a 70 square kilometer reserve that was established in 2005 to reintroduce the endangered white rhinoceros to Uganda after they were poached to extinction in the country in the early 1980s. The sanctuary is located in Nakasongola district, about 176 km (109 miles) north of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city.
Visitors to the sanctuary can enjoy a guided walking safari to track the rhinos in their natural habitat, and observe them from a safe distance. The sanctuary is also home to several other wildlife species such as antelopes, monkeys, and over 300 bird species, making it a fantastic birding destination.
