There are more gorilla tracking permits available for Uganda travelers than ever before. Bwindi now has 16 permits a day instead of 12 while Mgahinga maintains the usual number of 6. This is due to that each gorilla family will be visited by 8 tourists instead of 6. After a conclusive research of the carrying capacity of a habitat for the great apes, scientists have agreed to increase the number of visitors tracking each gorilla family from 6 to 8.
Conservationists and tour operators agree that this is a good development as this resource is high on demand but the few more permits available are not as a result of demand but the original group split in two to form HA and HB hence availing more opportunities to our visitors.
