President Museveni on Saturday 7th December 2002 joined over 200 tourists to visit Murchison Falls National Park and celebrate the Park’s 50th year anniversary.

Also present were Ambassadors of German, South Africa, Egypt and many other dignitaries from government, private sector, foreign residents and tourists.

The ceremony was a climax of a series of festivities meant to mark the golden jubilee. Ironically, this was staged in Murchison Falls NP which European and American travel advisory have earmarked as a no go place.

President Museveni meets German Ambassador Klaus Holderbaum at Murchison Falls National Park. But to the surprise of the visitors, the park is safe and has continued to receive American and European tourists. The visitors eagerly participated in the birding sprint, sport fishing competition, canoe regatta, launch trips and game viewing throughout the three days of festivities.

Improvements made by Uganda Wildlife Authority in the parks are evident. Management systems are better, workers are motivated, and the infrastructure has been boosted. Roads are all year round passable with comfortable hotels and lodges, telecommunications; all geared to cope with the increasing in-flow of tourists.
Special emphasis at the celebrations was attached to the domestic tourism, an immediate and more resilient market.
